If things go bad you could end up in a situation where one kingdom has elective where the others have primo (ect, ect.) and only having one top title avoids that. I believe that vassals need to be de jure part of a kingdom in order to create/join a faction to change the kingdom's laws. If nothing else, when the character dies.Īdmittedly the AI probably doesn't think that way. The "desires X title" malus exists as long as the title exists, whereas the one for destroying the title will go away. If they're good options or not I'm not sure because I try not to have more than one top title and I hand off excess kingdoms late game to avoid the opinion malus (and to make management easier) - I personally find king vassals work quite well. Well, I can think of some reasons as a player. Also with the empire title, even if they did they'd be vassals.Īnother reason could be that many vassals desired the kingdom titles and they can't desire what doesn't exist, but they'd dislike you even more for destroying that title. However I don't know why the AI did it in this case because the three kingdoms he destroyed all had the same succession law as the empire title so none of those would go to different heirs. It occurs to me now that maybe I could have destroyed titles to bring them all under the same laws without changing them individually. I had a bad heir once and tried to get around him with elected successions but eventually ending up going back 50 years to an earlier save because I had three by then four kingdoms and failed to realize earlier that I couldn't guarantee all of them would pick the same heir. This game has such complicated rules I almost never know if something is wrong or I just don't fully understand it.Īnyway, I'm wondering about the strategy of destroying titles, and what reasons there are for doing it. Finland also had Ultimogeniture but for some reason it can't be destroyed, the tooltip saying titles under gavelkind can't be destroyed.
Ireland, Scotland and Wales all had Ultimogeniture succession but England had gavelkind so couldn't be destroyed. I had just created the empire of Britannia having just gotten England to complete the set, and also had Finland, acquired in a crusade. The first thing they did was destroy every kingdom title he could.
